Athletes to flood Milwaukee for Triathlon National Championships
A pool of world-class athletes will compete in the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships in Milwaukee this weekend, supported by a renewed partnership between Milwaukee-based PEC Meetings Company and USA Triathlon.
The national competition acts as the lone qualifier for Team USA for the 2015 International Triathlon Union Triathlon World Championships.
That international race will be held in Chicago next year.
Last year’s national championship drew more than 4,000 national triathlon competitors ages 15 to 89 to Milwaukee, and the event was recognized as the Best Urban Triathlon Race of 2013 by Triathlon Business International.
Event organizers anticipate even more participants this year.
PEC Meetings Company coordinated 2013 event details by contracting suppliers, setting up the race course and organizing the competition’s transition campus at the Milwaukee Art Museum and Discovery World.
“The assistance PEC provided to USA Triathlon was instrumental in finding creative ways to cut costs and enhance the experience for the athletes and spectators while keeping the project within budget,” said Blake Zink, USA Triathlon National events manager.
During the 2014 event, PEC Meetings Company will also handle food and beverages.
“This extends not only to providing the athletes with a post-race meal to replenish the energy they exhausted during the race but to concessions for the spectators as well,” said Denice Waldhuetter, vice president of PEC Meetings Company. “PEC will oversee every aspect from the delivery and preparation of the food to donating leftovers to local shelters after the event is complete.”
Triathlon events will run Saturday, Aug. 9, and Sunday, Aug. 10, along Milwaukee’s lakefront. For more information on the weekend competition, click here.
